After two underwhelming seasons, something had to give at Bintaufa in season three (2012/13).

An early 4-1 defeat at Atletico Baleares did little to think much was going to change, but we then enjoyed the most remarkable run of form and sat top of the league after eight games following a 4-0 win over Fuenlabrada.

That was followed by a 5-1 defeat of Castellon, and we were starting to dream of a romp to the title.

Of course, that didn’t happen. A draw and a defeat were followed by three wins, which meant we had won 10 of our first 14 games.

But over Christmas, our form deserted us.

The joy at making progress in the Cup – where we eventually lost to Barcelona B over two legs – was compounded by a horrendous league run of one win in 11 which put a dagger through our promotion hopes.

In terms of players, the defence was fairly consistent but goals were an issue – just 13 from striker Danny Hoesen, which was only one more than Libero Parri from midfield. Both Parris and Ruben Carreras were top performers, with Arkaitz Paradinas and Frederic Veseli forming a promising defensive partnership.

And so it was a third non-descript season really, with some signs of promise, but ultimately a failed bid to reach the play-offs.

Getting out of Segunda Division B at all might just be the goal here, let alone anything more. Just goes to show how difficult it is, just to get in to the top four – which itself only gets you in to the lottery of a play-off.
